Social Isolation Grant Funding Opportunity Available for Home Care and Assisted Living

The application is now available to apply for grants made available through the Home Care Provider Advisory Council. The Council has been given approval by the Commissioner of Health to provide funding to home care providers and other entities to mitigate social isolation of vulnerable adults residing in home care provider settings including assisted living settings.

MDH Posts Notice on Distribution of New Home Care Bill of Rights Language

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) this week issued an update that addresses changes to the Home Care Bill of Rights that went into effect Aug. 1. MDH is working on updating each version of the Home Care Bill of Rights with the changes and will post them on its website when they are available. In the meantime, MDH is directing providers to the following notice to Home Care Providers to guide distribution of the new Bill of Rights language:
First Pieces of Elder Care Protection Take Effect Aug. 1

Several elements of the new Elder Care and Vulnerable Adult Protection Act of 2019 take effect on Aug. 1, including retaliation protections, new fines, a maltreatment compensation fund, revisions to the Home Care Bill of Rights and the new Health Services Executive license. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has not released guidance on many of these provisions at this time.

The Assisted Living Certificate Program for Assisted Living/Housing-with-Services managers and home care nurse managers provides essential training on the most important core skills and knowledge for housing and home care nursing managers. A limited number of spots are still available for the Spring series, which starts next week (April 25 – June 5) and has a $100 savings incentive on registration.

As renters of a housing setting, a resident has the right to return to their home following an absence at any time. In some instances, the person has had a change of need that requires added home care services, supplies, or even an interim stay at somewhere like a rehabilitation or transitional care setting. Communication with a resident/representative and hospital staff is vital to assure a smooth transition and appropriate services and supplies being in place.

Home Care and Assisted Living Provider Change of Information Reporting Required

Licensed home care providers and registered home management providers are required to notify the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) within 10 days when there is a change on the license or registration. A Change of Information Form is available on the MDH website.
