These nursing homes were honored in recognition of their successful participation in the national Nursing Home C. difficile initiative, which is part of a nationwide partnership between state and federal public health agencies, health care facilities, providers and infection control personnel. The initiative aimed to understand more clearly how often the bacteria Clostridiodes difficile (C. difficile) causes infections in nursing home residents.

As participants, these members collected their C. difficile data and submitted into the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) database. This baseline data is important in the quality reporting and reduction of C. difficile infections in nursing homes.

The Nursing Home C. difficile initiative is directed by Stratis Health, part of the Lake Superior Quality Innovation Network who supported nursing homes with how to submit infection data, as well as how to implement antibiotic stewardship principles and other quality improvement practices.
