5 Ways to Engage with DEED this Workforce Development Month

September 21, 2023

September is Workforce Development Month, an excellent time for employers to explore the resources and expert support from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).

DEED is the state's principal economic development agency—helping job seekers, businesses, and communities. As an employer, you can access DEED resources to help connect with job seekers, utilize state and local labor data, and get expert support to alleviate your workforce challenges.

Five ways to engage with DEED

  1. Register for October District Meetings—Registration is open for LeadingAge Minnesota October District Meetings featuring labor market analysts from DEED. Experts will join each district to share the latest data and insights about Minnesota’s workforce demographics and trends, how the aging services sector compares to others, and where untapped labor pools exist.
  2. Attend a Labor Market Training Session—DEED has scheduled a set of Labor Market Information Training Sessions this fall and winter to help attendees use labor market information data tools. You can also schedule a reach out to your regional analyst if you or your staff would be interested in having a customized training session.
  3. Engage with the “Follow Your Heart to a Caring Career” campaign – DEED launched this campaign aimed at helping providers attract, hire, and retain the workforce needed to care for the older adults and people with disabilities in Minnesota. Access employer resources, including occupational handouts in multiple languages to use with prospective employees, career pathways infographics, and more.
  4. Promote your hiring events statewide – Add your upcoming events, job fairs, and no-appointment-needed interview opportunities to DEED’s job fair calendar. You can also engage online with #CaringCareerMN when posting so DEED can help amplify your message to job seekers.
  5. Connect with your Local Regional Analysts—DEED’s Regional Analysts are the state's experts on the latest labor market intelligence, economic conditions, and workforce trends. Analysts can provide expertise, analysis services, training, and presentations to your organization. Reach out to your local analyst to learn more.
