Assisted Living Director License Renewal Period Ends Oct. 31
All Licensed Assisted Living Directors (LALDs) must renew their licenses annually. Oct. 31 is the final day to renew licenses for this year.
No continuing education credits (CEs) are due for this year’s renewal. The price for license renewal for LALDs is $125. For those with shared licenses serving as the Director of Record for more than one facility, the fee is an additional $125 per license (facility).
There are currently 382 LALDs who have not submitted their license renewal.
Not renewing? First, consider these factors
If you have not renewed your license and do not intend to renew, you should consider the following carefully:
- Licensed Assisted Living Directors who obtained licensure through the legacy application process of applying on or before June 30, 2021, cannot be reinstated if they fail to renew by Oct. 31, 2023. You will be required to reapply for licensure and complete the required coursework, field experience, and examinations – both national exams and state assisted living director exams.
- If you pass the renewal date of Oct.31 and still choose to reapply, you will be subject to a late fee of $75 plus the renewal fee of $125 per license. This fee and late renewal process will end on Dec. 31, 2023. You will be subject to reinstatement rules (non-legacy applicants), or you will be required to reapply for licensure.
- Those operating without a current license are subject to review by the Board and may be requested to appear before the Board.
- The Minnesota Department of Health will be provided a list of licensees who oversee a facility as the Director of Record and do not have a current license on file with the board.
- Update your Director of Record to be sure your license and name are removed from the facility you had previously been overseeing. To do so, go to your license portal and place the end date for the facility. You can do so here.
To begin your license renewal, log on to the BELTSS Online Portal. Update your Director of Record, address, email, and any other changes that may have occurred and complete the renewal process.
Logging in
Verify that you have access to your online login portal in advance. If not, a request to BELTSS staff should be made as soon as possible and no later than midnight on Oct. 25 to ensure your request is handled before the last day of license renewals. BELTSS staff may not respond for 3-5 business days, which may be after the renewal period, so you should plan ahead and not wait for unforeseen circumstances or login issues to arise.
Completing your renewal
To complete the license renewal process, please log into your online portal. Step by Step instructions are available here:
- How to complete the ALD license renewal process
- How to complete the Shared ALD license renewal process.
You must apply for one if you do not have a shared license but oversee multiple locations. You can do so in your online portal by submitting a new application.
Update Director of Record Status
Be sure you review your Director of Record to be sure it is current. If you no longer oversee an assisted living or have begun serving a new one, you will need to update your license portal here. You can also view the online licensee search, which the State Surveyors use before arriving at your building or while doing a desk audit. It is your responsibility to ensure the information is accurate.
