BENHA Provides Guidance on Continuing Education During COVID-19
While the license renewal cycle for nursing home administrators historically activates in May, the Minnesota Board of Examiners for Nursing Home Administrators (BENHA) recognizes that these are unprecedented times. In a news release distributed this week, BENHA provided the following counsel regarding continuing education or clock hours to renew your license:
Continuing Education or clock hours required to renew your license will be deferred during this time. Not knowing the length of this challenge, BENHA will defer some of the final decisions until they are given a cautious yellow or green light to proceed with a recovery plan consistent with the current law. While it’s too early to determine final requirements, BENHA but will attempt to hold individuals harmless during this time to allow you to focus on your client base.
What BENHA Knows Now and Will Continue to Update on Its Website:
- Clock hours will be extended to June 30, 2020.
- If time frames are required beyond July 1, BENHA will plan on the potential of deferring the renewal period to a later time frame, i.e. 60 days after the emergency declaration is completed or other approaches informally discussed and not fully vetted.
- There may be additional Executive Orders by other appointing authorities to waive a portion of the Continuing Education year or even delay renewal of license into summer or fall.
BENHA will post updates to their website. For more information, contact Randy Snyder at randy.snyder@state.mn.us.
