Fourth Attempt to Pass the Nurse Aide Knowledge Test Becomes a Standard in Minnesota
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has announced that the temporary fourth testing attempt to pass the nurse aide knowledge test is now a standard in Minnesota.
Background
Last fall, MDH announced a temporary fourth attempt for the knowledge test, previously limited to three attempts. Beginning Oct. 3, 2022, nurse aide candidates have had four opportunities to pass the knowledge test and three opportunities to pass the skills test. MDH identified that this temporary change would be re-evaluated in March 2023. Over the past six months, this fourth attempt helped add additional nurse aides to the healthcare industry.
Fourth testing opportunity becomes a standard
Last week via GovDelivery, MDH announced that the fourth testing opportunity for attempting the knowledge test will now be standard for Minnesota.
- This new standard is effective immediately.
- The fourth attempt must be completed within 24 months of the nurse aide training date or initial challenge date.
- If candidates cannot pass the knowledge exam after four attempts, they must complete a new Nurse Aide Training Competency Program (NATCEP).
- Candidates will continue to have three attempts to pass the skills exam.
