Legal and Clinical Ethics in Serving LGBT+ Older Adults

November 19, 2019
By Jodi Boyne

The American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) has published Legal and Clinical Ethics in Serving LGBT+ Older Adults, authored by attorneys Robert Rodè and William McDonough of LeadingAge Minnesota business partner member Voigt, Rodè, Boxeth & Coffin, and Jane Danner of Volunteers of America National Services.

Using a detailed case study, the briefing provides an excellent overview of the challenges to care faced by LGBT+ older adults, regulatory requirements salient to serving these clients, and applicable principles arising under professional ethical standards for social workers, nurses and attorneys.

Rodè and Danner led an educational session on these issues at the recent LeadingAge national conference in San Diego, and the material will be of interest to older adult services providers across the continuum of care. The briefing is available to download as a PDF from the AHLA.
