By Jodi Boyne

Amanda Wik, Licensed Social Worker at Ecumen Detroit Lakes, recently received the Make Zero Harm Possible Award from LeadingAge Minnesota. The award recognizes staff in aging services settings who demonstrate their commitment to safe, quality care and to treating people with respect and dignity – always.

“Amanda Wik is passionate about providing individualized care to all who live at Ecumen Detroit Lakes,” said Gayle Kvenvold, President and CEO, LeadingAge Minnesota. “It is our honor to recognize Amanda and shine a light on the positive contributions she has made to elders she serves and her fellow team members, helping all experience a life well lived.”

In addition to serving as a licensed social worker, Amanda is a co-champion of Safe Care for Seniors. A comprehensive and quality improvement program from LeadingAge Minnesota, Safe Care for Seniors is designed to strengthen the culture of safety, prevent the risk of harm before it occurs, and uncover new opportunities for learning and improvement in the delivery of care and services.

Danielle Olson, Executive Director at Ecumen Detroit Lakes, credits Wik and her Safe Care counterpart for creating a stronger safety culture by identifying situations that could prevent harm, actively working with a broader interdisciplinary team to prevent them, and then share the learnings through a campus wide newsletter.

“Amanda has a passion for safe and dignified care. She is a strong advocate for resident rights and challenges everyone to think differently on how we can best provide safe, quality care and services to those who call Ecumen Detroit Lakes home,” Olson said.
