Minnesota Department of Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm to Retire
On Wednesday, Nov. 16, Minnesota Commissioner of Health Jan Malcolm announced that she will retire at the end of Governor Tim Walz's first term on Jan. 3, concluding a career of public service to Minnesota in the administrations of three different governors.
Malcolm was first appointed health commissioner in 1999 by Governor Jesse Ventura. She served in that role for the duration of the Ventura Administration. Then in 2003, she returned to work in non-profit health care, including as the CEO of Courage Kenny. In January 2018, Malcolm was appointed to the post of Commissioner once again by Governor Mark Dayton. Governor Walz reappointed her at the start of his first term in January 2019.
In sharing her announcement, Commissioner Malcolm celebrated the work of public health workers and caring professionals across the healthcare continuum, stating, “I know they will continue the vital work of protecting, maintaining, and improving the health of all Minnesotans.”
We are grateful for Commissioner Malcolm's many years of public service and commitment to partnership and collaboration. We wish her well as she explores her next adventure.
