Severe Weather Awareness Week April 7-11
Minnesota is in the midst of Severe Weather Awareness Week, an annual effort to help individuals prepare for the upcoming severe weather emergencies that can occur throughout the coming months.
Each day this week brings a different focus:
- Monday, April 7: Alerts and warnings
- Tuesday, April 8: Severe weather, lightning, hail
- Wednesday, April 9: Floods
- Thursday, April 10: Tornados
- Statewide drills at 1:45 and 6:45 p.m.
- Be aware that these alarms are a test and a way for you, your staff, residents and visitors to practice what to do in the event of severe weather happening in your area.
- Friday, April 11: Extreme heat and wildfires
Emergency Preparedness
If you missed out on opportunities to highlight these topics, it’s not too late! Now is the time to review your emergency plans, practice with staff, and educate your residents on how they can participate in efforts to be safe. We have an obligation to be sure that staff are well trained on how to respond to severe weather. Staff at any independent living senior community also have responsibilities to be prepared so you can keep your residents and property safe during severe weather.
