Aging Services Audio Glossary

Audio Glossary in English, Hmong, Spanish & Somali

This Multilingual Audio Glossary (English, Hmong, Spanish, Somali) is a simple, easy-to-use tool that helps aging services care staff learn common senior care terms and definitions. Users can listen to each term and its definition in both English and in their native language. They can also read the definition in everyday, easy-to-understand language. This resource was created to support New American professionals working in Minnesota’s aging services care settings, including staff with limited English proficiency and bilingual team members who move between languages at work. It can be used during onboarding, training, or as a quick reference on the job to strengthen communication, understanding, and confidence. The glossary is also useful for English-speaking staff and supervisors who want to better understand long-term care terminology. It is available in English, Hmong, Spanish, and Somali.

Disclaimer

This multilingual audio glossary was developed in collaboration with multiple translators and language contributors. While we strive for accuracy, interpretations, terminology, and pronunciations may vary across languages, regions, dialects, and cultural contexts.

This resource is provided for educational and workforce training purposes only. It does not replace clinical judgment, facility policies, professional standards of practice, or formal medical guidance. Staff should follow their organization’s established protocols and consult appropriate supervisors or licensed healthcare professionals when making care-related decisions.
