Bed Rail Recall: What Providers Need to Know About Xalirium Portable Rails
Federal regulators have pulled a line of adult portable bed rails from the market, and providers should check whether any are in use in their buildings. The CPSC announced the recall of Xalirium-brand rails (No. 27-029) after finding several problems with the product:
- Entrapment. A person’s body can slip into the opening of the rail, or into the space between the rail and the mattress. That can lead to suffocation.
- Falls. The frame is not stable enough, and the straps that should hold the rail to the bed do not meet federal requirements.
- Missing warnings. The product has none of the mandatory hazard labels.
No one has been reported hurt. About 200 sets were sold on Amazon between February and August 2026 for around $60.
How to spot them: The rail has a white frame, black foam handgrips, and a black fabric carrying pouch. It stands about 17 inches tall, and the brand name appears on the box. The recall applies only to rails whose opening has no vertical bars across it.
Getting a Refund
usOpal, the seller, is offering full refunds through xaliriumofficial@outlook.com. To qualify, the owner must:
- Disable the rail by cutting the pouch, straps, and foam.
- Mark both rails “RECALLED.”
- Email a photo of the marked rails to the seller.
After that, discard the product.
Steps for Your Community
- Look through your inventory and pay special attention to unbranded or unlabeled rails that could be this model.
- Reach out to any resident who uses one, and their representative if they have one, and explain the dangers in plain terms.
- Explore safer options with the resident, such as a low bed or a different mobility aid.
- Record the conversation, the resident’s choice, and their understanding of the risks in the service plan or IAPP.
- If the resident decides to keep the rail, make sure it is mounted correctly. Watch for signs of entrapment, wobbling, or improper use, and reassess whenever their physical or cognitive status changes.
Resident choice still applies here. A resident may continue using a recalled rail as long as they understand the risks, the decision is documented, and staff keep monitoring for safety.
