Learning Circles Promote Staff Engagement

June 23, 2019
By Jenna Kellerman

Promote engagement and interactive learning by hosting a learning circle with a variety of teams in your organization.

WHEN

Learning circles can be held during an all staff meeting, a department meeting, a small team meeting, stand-up or morning report, or at a time when a specific issue needs to be discussed.

INSTRUCTIONS

Select a topic that is important to your staff and gather into a circle of 10-15 people. Pose the discussion question and go around the circle, allowing each staff member time to speak uninterrupted.

When you host a learning circle, one person is the convener, but no hierarchy should be recognized between staff or titles. After everyone has had an uninterrupted chance to speak the floor can be opened for a group discussion.

The convener should close the circle with a summary of the discussion, lessons learned and next steps.
