Multilingual Video Series for Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement

A Welcoming, Documentary-Style Introduction to Long-Term Care Careers in Minnesota

This five-part, documentary-style video series is designed to support pre-recruitment, recruitment, and retention efforts for Minnesota’s long-term care workforce. The series is intended to connect New Americans with meaningful careers in long-term care. Offered in English, French, Hmong, Oromo, Spanish, Somali, Swahili, and Ukrainian, the series provides a realistic and affirming introduction to long-term care work—helping viewers understand what to expect, why the work is meaningful, and how to succeed.

Created specifically for New Americans entering long-term care, this video series offers a welcoming sneak peek into what senior care is and what senior care settings look like—helping viewers feel informed and prepared before stepping into the work. The videos address common barriers such as cultural unfamiliarity, unclear job expectations, and unexpected responsibilities, improving recruitment and reducing early turnover by setting clear expectations and highlighting real success stories. The series also emphasizes the meaningful purpose of long-term care work, showing what the job is really like, how to build connection and belonging in the workplace and in Minnesota communities, and how to leverage opportunities within the field for long-term success and career growth.

This video offers an intimate and authentic look into the everyday experience of working in long-term care, told through the voices of multiple New Americans in various roles. From the start of the morning at home, to meaningful moments with residents, the interwoven stories highlight the shared purpose and teamwork that unite long-term care professionals.

Day in the Life of an Elder

This video tells the story of long-term care through the perspective of an elder receiving services from New Americans working in LTC roles, along with insights from the elder’s family. By following their daily routine, viewers will see how consistent, quality care supports dignity, connection, and a high quality of life, combating stigma around LTC settings. Along the way, the video introduces the caregivers who make these moments possible and shows the impact supportive care has on elders and families.

What to Expect

This video serves as a welcoming and honest introduction to long-term care job responsibilities. It focuses on realistic expectations for new employees and offers guidance on  approaching these responsibilities, helping New Americans prepare for workplace situations that may feel unfamiliar at first, such as providing personal care to residents of different genders, encountering foods or products that may conflict with cultural or religious norms, and understanding common workplace policies like payroll deductions. Ultimately, it helps new employees feel prepared and confident, with fewer surprises once they begin the work.

Success and Stories

This video features both caregivers and elders receiving care to show how success and fulfillment occur on both sides of the care relationship.
