NextGeneration Nursing Assistant Training Program

The NextGeneration Nursing Assistant Training Program (NGNA) or the “NextGen” initiative began in Dec. 2021 when Governor Tim Walz invested $3.4 million of funding to provide free nursing assistant training to 1,000 individuals, covering the cost of instruction, scrubs, testing, and more. In 2022, over 1,300 Minnesotans were trained, including individuals trained through LeadingAge Minnesota Foundation’s OnTrack program.

In September of 2022, Governor Walz announced an additional $2.5 million investment to continue the state’s NGNA program. The new funding will allow the initiative to run until Feb. 2023 to recruit and train an additional 800 students.
