Become a Certified Mental Health First Aid Instructor

Posted on January 9, 2025 by Anna Mowry

Winona State University is offering another round for individuals to become certified instructors of the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training certification this April.

MHFA Instructors

Over the past two years, the LeadingAge Minnesota Foundation has sponsored nearly 400 Minnesotan aging services professionals to become MHFA certified. Now, those certified Mental Health First Aiders can become instructors of the MHFA course to bring this vital training to their organizations and communities.

MHFA is a skills-based training course that empowers individuals to identify, understand, and respond to mental health issues. Certified instructors can teach the MHFA course in their communities and to the public.

Virtual Train-the-Trainer Instructor MHFA Certification Course

  • DATES: April 22-24 (3 days)
  • REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Feb. 25, 2025
  • TIME: 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
  • COST: $2,895 per person
  • HOW TO APPLY: If you are motivated to take your initial Mental Health First Aid training to the next level, complete this interest form to verify your eligibility.

Training Details

This three-day virtual training provides in-depth instruction on facilitating the MHFA curriculum. The training includes self-paced pre-work, a written exam, a presentation to present the MHFA course, and membership to a national MHFA network after certification. Through membership, you will have access to coaching and implementation resources as you establish yourself as an MHFA instructor and will receive ongoing direct support throughout the life of your certification.

After this training, Instructors must deliver the Mental Health First Aid program three times a year to remain certified.

This training is conducted by Winona State University and the National Council of Mental Wellbeing. Learn more about the role and benefits of becoming an MHFA Instructor.
