CMS Adds More Participants to Bundled Payments Pilot Project

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that more than 2,100 acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, physician group practices, long-term care hospitals, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and home health agencies transitioned from a preparatory period to a risk-bearing implementation period in which they assumed financial risk for episodes of care.

Funding Available for Dementia Programs

The Minnesota Board on Aging is seeking proposals for the dementia competitive grants program that was approved during the 2015 legislative session. A total of $1.5 million dollars, $750,000 in each year of the biennium, is available for programs that focus on dementia and its impacts on persons with dementia, caregivers of persons with dementia, and communities.

Pre-Admission Screening Required for Residents Returning from Psychiatric Treatment in Hospital

The Minnesota Department of Human Services is reminding nursing facilities of the requirement for pre-admission screening for residents returning from psychiatric treatment in a hospital.  While most returns from the hospital are exempt from pre-admission screening, a return to a nursing facility from an inpatient psychiatric hospital stay is not an exempt transfer. These individuals must be reassessed by the lead agency to determine the appropriateness of their continued placement in a nursing facility.

245D Notification Requirement of Service Suspension or Termination Effective Aug. 1

245D licensed providers must now notify the Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) in writing when they issue a notice of temporary service suspension or service termination from residential services. Providers who issue temporary service suspension or service termination notices dated Aug. 1 or later must fax the notices to 651.431.7406.

CMS Issues FY 2016 Hospice Payment Final Rule

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released the FY 2016 Hospice Wage Index and Payment Rate Update and Hospice Quality Reporting Requirements final rule. The rule updates hospice payment rates and the wage index for fiscal year 2016, including implementing the final year of the phase-out of the wage index budget neutrality adjustment factor.

USDA Proposes Using SNAP for Home Food Delivery to Low Income Seniors

Low income, homebound seniors and people with disabilities may soon be able to use Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefits for home food delivery.

Additional Worker Protections Focus of Minneapolis Works Campaign

A coalition of labor organizations last week formally launched a campaign called “Minneapolis Works” and held events in all 13 Minneapolis wards to call on the City Council to adopt a package of city ordinances that would require a $15 minimum wage, require paid sick leave, prevent employers from making last-minute schedule changes or requiring employees to work back-to-back closing and opening shifts, and prevent wage theft. There is no specific draft ordinance language to review at this time.
