Time for Action is Now: US Senate Takes Up Healthcare Reform Bill

Yesterday, the Senate passed a motion to proceed and take up the federal health care reform bill. Now we will see up to 20 hours of debate, followed by amendments, and then a final vote. Instead of going through the traditional committee process, the bill essentially will be crafted on the Senate floor.

CMS Shares Overview of Revised Interpretive Guidance and New Survey Process

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) discussed the revised interpretive guidance for nursing homes and the new survey process (both effective Nov. 28, 2017) in a national provider call July 25.   The presentation slides are available on-line, and an audio recording and transcript will be posted within approximately two weeks.

CMS Issues Non-Compliance Letters to Care Centers that Failed to Submit Quality Data

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) distributed notifications to care centers that were determined to be non-compliant with Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program (QRP) requirements for the 4th Quarter of Calendar Year 2016. Care centers that fail to submit required quality data will see a 2 percent cut on their Fiscal Year 2018 Annual Payment Update (APU) beginning Oct. 1.

SNF Quality Reporting: 1st Quarter 2017 Data Submission Deadline Approaching

The next submission deadline for the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) Quality Reporting Program (QRP) is Aug. 15. This reporting deadline covers Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessment data for January – March of 2017.

New Interactive Data Maps on Care Center Market Saturation, Beneficiaries

Providers have a new tool to help them make informed decisions about the locations where they offer services and the beneficiaries they serve. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released new interactive maps showing market saturation and beneficiary data for multiple healthcare settings in each state, includes skilled nursing facilities, hospice and long-term care hospitals.

$1 Million Invested in 43 Workforce Development Projects

Seventeen workforce grants, worth more than $385,000, were awarded to rural LeadingAge Minnesota members by the LeadingAge Minnesota Foundation last week. This second round completes a $1 million grant distribution through the Workforce Solutions grant program.
