Celebrating a Legacy of Vision, Service, and Leadership in Aging Services
LeadingAge Minnesota is proud to honor Bob Dahl, outgoing President and CEO of Cassia, with our prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award — one of the highest honors bestowed by the association. Reserved for individuals who are retiring from a career of distinction in aging services, the award recognizes visionary leadership, enduring impact, and a legacy that inspires future generations.
For more than 30 years, Bob Dahl has exemplified what it means to lead with humility, courage, and a steadfast commitment to older adults. His career reflects the words from Philippians 2:3-4: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
A Transformational Leader
Bob began his leadership journey at Elim Care, where his vision and integrity earned him the trust of colleagues, residents, and communities across Minnesota. His leadership extended well beyond organizational management; he fostered a culture rooted in mission, service, and dignity.
One of Bob’s most defining achievements came when he guided the historic merger of Elim Care and Augustana Care, resulting in the creation of Cassia. Leading with courage and conviction, Bob honored the legacies of both organizations while uniting them into a stronger, more innovative ministry. Today, Cassia is well-positioned to serve the needs of older adults for decades to come — a testament to Bob’s thoughtful and steady leadership through times of great change.
Guided by Mission
At the heart of every decision Bob has made is Cassia’s mission: “to foster fullness of life for older adults in the spirit of Christ’s love.” Under his leadership, this mission was not just a statement but a lived commitment.
Bob championed expanded housing and care options, supported workforce development initiatives, and ensured that Cassia consistently modeled what it means to serve with dignity and respect. He reminded colleagues and partners alike that excellence in aging services is not just about programs or policies, but about people — and the relationships built on trust, compassion, and faith.
Partner and Advocate
Beyond Cassia, Bob has been a trusted partner and influential voice within LeadingAge Minnesota. Over the years, he served in numerous leadership capacities, including:
- Board of Directors, including serving as Board Chair (2011–2012)
- LeadingAge Minnesota Foundation Board, where he served as Chair (2018–2022)
- Public Policy Cabinet
- PAC Board
- Legal Review Committee
- Culture Change Council
Through these roles, Bob played a pivotal role in shaping advocacy efforts, advancing the association’s mission, and strengthening the future of aging services across Minnesota. His leadership has helped ensure that policies and programs reflect the values of dignity, respect, and quality of life for older adults.
A Mentor and Bridge-Builder
Bob’s legacy extends well beyond organizational achievements. He has been a mentor to emerging leaders, a bridge-builder in communities across the state, and a steady voice during both rapid transformation and times that demanded resilience.
Colleagues describe him as a servant-leader — someone who places the mission and people above personal ambition, and who continually seeks ways to uplift others. His wisdom, compassion, and ability to listen deeply have set an example that will continue to inspire those who follow in his footsteps.
A Family Effort
In honoring Bob, LeadingAge Minnesota also extends gratitude to his wife, Diane, whose support and encouragement have been invaluable throughout his 30 years of leadership. Diane’s partnership has been an essential part of Bob’s journey, providing strength and balance as he dedicated himself to his calling in senior care.
A Legacy that Endures
As Bob transitions into retirement, his legacy is firmly established — in the lives touched by his leadership, in the mission-driven growth of Cassia, and in the enduring strength of LeadingAge Minnesota.
Celebrating a Servant-Leader
The Lifetime Achievement Award is more than a recognition of past accomplishments; it is a celebration of the spirit of leadership that transforms organizations, strengthens communities, and touches lives.
For three decades, Bob has embodied that spirit. His vision shaped organizations, his voice influenced policy, his mentorship guided leaders, and his heart uplifted countless older adults and families.
As the field of aging services continues to evolve, Bob’s legacy will remain a source of guidance and inspiration. His example reminds us that true leadership is not measured by titles or accolades, but by service, humility, and the lives made fuller because of it.
