Fall Nurse Lunch & Learns: Practical Skills for the Everyday Work of Nursing

Posted on September 17, 2026 by Sharon Hollister

When a resident’s condition changes, a provider needs to be called or a task needs to be delegated, nurses need practical skills they can put to work immediately. This fall, LeadingAge Minnesota’s Nurse Lunch & Learn webinar series focuses on three everyday situations where clear assessment and communication can make a difference.

Each 30-minute virtual session combines focused learning with practical application — designed to fit into a busy nurse’s day while strengthening skills that support resident care. The series is intended for Directors and Associate Directors of Nursing, Nurse Managers and floor nurses in both care center and assisted living settings.

This fall’s lineup includes:

  • Sept. 30 – Assessment Before Calling the Provider: Learn what to assess, gather and document before making the call so providers have the information they need to respond effectively.
  • Oct. 28 – SBAR Refresher: Revisit the fundamentals of Situation, Background, Assessment and Recommendation and practice building a concise, confident SBAR.
  • Dec. 1 – Managing Your Shift: Communications from the Licensed Nurse to the ULP: Strengthen delegation communication, including giving clear direction, confirming understanding and following up on delegated tasks.

Nurse Lunch & Learns are a complimentary member benefit, making it easy to encourage nurses across your organization to participate. Each live webinar is eligible for 0.50 clock hours and has been designed to meet Minnesota Board of Nursing continuing education approval.

Whether you register for one topic or all three, bring your lunch, log in and spend 30 minutes sharpening skills you’ll use on your very next shift.
