New to MDS? Build the Foundation to Do It Right

Posted on September 17, 2026 by Sharon Hollister

The MDS is too important to learn by trial and error. Foundations for New MDS Professionals, November 12–13, gives new MDS coordinators and clinical team members two focused days to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need for accurate, compliant MDS practice.

The MDS touches nearly every aspect of nursing home performance — from resident assessment and care planning to quality measures and reimbursement. For someone stepping into an MDS role, understanding not only what to do, but how all the pieces fit together, is essential.

This in-person intensive will help your MDS professional:

  • Build foundational competency across all MDS sections
  • Understand Care Area Assessments and how they connect to care planning
  • Apply OBRA and PPS scheduling rules accurately
  • Understand basic Medicare coverage and skilled level-of-care requirements
  • Develop an introductory understanding of PDPM and its reimbursement drivers

Led by Marilyn Ramirez, MSN, RN, RAC-CTA, WCC, Executive Vice President of MDS Solutions, the workshop combines core education with practical application so participants can return to their organizations better prepared to put what they've learned into practice.

If you have a newer MDS coordinator or a clinical team member who needs a stronger understanding of the MDS process, this is an opportunity to invest in the foundation they need to succeed.

  • Foundations for New MDS Professionals
  • November 12–13 | 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Minnesota Humanities Center | St. Paul

Register today to strengthen your MDS processes and your organization's performance.
