Providers with Housing Support Agreements Required to Have Narcan Available

Posted on May 16, 2024 by Bobbie Guidry

A change made last legislative session requires providers participating in the Housing Support Program to have and train staff on the use of Narcan.

During the 2023 legislative session, language was added to state law 256I.052 requiring all Housing Support providers with a Group Housing Support Agreement (including assisted living facilities) to maintain at least 2 doses of naloxone (brand name Narcan) on site and train staff on how and when to administer it.

Find more information

Helpful information can be found on the MN Department of Health website. Providers can purchase a kit of 2 doses for approximately $50 over the counter at any pharmacy. For more information, training, and potential access to free doses, see the Steve Rummler Hope Network website. The staff team at LeadingAge Minnesota are also reviewing for any additional resources that may be of assistance in complying with this new requirement and will share in upcoming editions of Advantage.
