Register Today: Free Dec. 20 Webinar on HCBS Settings Site Visits & Heightened Scrutiny

Posted on December 5, 2018 by Bobbie Guidry

Join LeadingAge Minnesota and the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 9 a.m. for a free one-hour webinar on next steps in the Minnesota Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Settings Rule State Transition Plan. Register today!

Residential (Customized Living and Foster Care) Settings and Adult Day Service providers enrolled to provide HCBS funded through medical assistance waiver programs are required to meet standards set forth by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to be deemed a HCBS setting. Some settings, due to their location or configuration, are assumed “not to be a HCBS setting.” These settings have received a visit from representatives of Minnesota’s Department of Human Services (DHS) in 2018 or will soon be scheduled for a visit.

The Dec. 20 webinar is help those providers who have had a site visit to understand the process and what next steps will occur. By participating in the webinar, providers will have:

  • a better understanding of what happens following a site visit from DHS;
  • know whether their organization meets the HCBS Standards or what, if anything, further is needed;
  • provide insight into the public comment period and if there are any actions suggested for providers;
  • share details on what is included in the packet that will be sent to CMS by DHS after the site visit; and
  • describe what CMS will do with the information they receive.

Following a site visit, a package of information to support a determination that the setting meets the HCBS Standards will be prepared by DHS for submission to CMS. For some providers, there may be required adjustments to meet the standards. A public comment period will also occur before submission of support is sent to CMS. Settings that do not meet the standards may eventually lose their ability to receive payment as a HCBS provider.

Please know providers will be given a transition plan, technical assistance and the opportunity to get into compliance before it reaches that point.
