Seeking Mentors for LALD Students

Posted on October 14, 2021 by Jenna Kellerman

Are you interested in advancing the next generation of leaders in Assisted Living? LeadingAge Minnesota is looking for Licensed Assisted Living Directors (LALDs) to volunteer as mentors for students enrolled in our Assisted Living Director Licensure Program.

The mentor's role is to guide and coach LALD students to complete the licensure program and Field Experience.

What is required to be a mentor?

  • Meet the eligibility qualifications, including holding a license as an assisted living director or health services executive, practicing for at least two years or be licensed on or before July 1, 2021
  • Ensure compliance during the Field Experience and ensure all requirements and topics are covered as required, documenting within the Self-Assessment form and other requirements from the Board of Executives for Long Term Services and Supports (BELTSS)
  • Determine the length of field experience for each student based on the completed Self-Assessment form (320 – 1,000 hours)
  • Be available for "just in time" questions while students complete their Field experience and projects and regularly scheduled meetings to review student progress
  • Understand your responsibility in monitoring the proper qualifications of the student and the enforcement abilities of BELTSS in this matter

The Assisted Living Director website from BELTSS contains helpful information if you would like to learn more. If you are interested in serving as a Mentor, please contact Jenna Kellerman, Workforce Solutions Director at LeadingAge Minnesota.
