The Sholom Foundation recently announced the appointment of Ted Flaum as its new Chief Development Officer, effective October 13, 2025.
Ted brings more than three decades of leadership experience in Jewish communal service, social services, and philanthropy, having served in senior roles across the United States and here in Minnesota.
He came to the Twin Cities in 2008 as Campaign Director at the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul, later serving as CEO of Jewish Family Service of St. Paul and subsequently as CEO of the Federation. During his tenure, he led strategic initiatives that strengthened community impact and deepened philanthropic engagement.
A native of Brooklyn, Ted holds dual master’s degrees in Jewish Communal Service (Hebrew Union College) and Social Work (University of Southern California). His professional journey also includes leadership roles with the Jewish Federations of Greater New Orleans and Las Vegas, United Way of Southern Nevada, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Nevada, and Boys Town Nevada.
Personal Mission
Ted’s connection to Sholom’s mission is personal and profound. He recalls how his grandmother’s time as a resident of the Jewish Home in San Francisco left a lasting impression on him.
“My love and respect for senior care began when my grandmother lived at the Jewish Home in San Francisco,” Ted shares. “It meant so much to our family to know she was cared for with such warmth and dignity. Joining Sholom Foundation feels like coming full circle. I’m truly excited to help sustain and strengthen an organization that honors our elders every day.”
In his new role, Ted will lead annual giving programs, project-related fundraising initiatives, and donor engagement efforts to ensure Sholom’s continued excellence in care and community for generations to come.
Sholom Foundation’s Executive Director Joel Mandel shared:
“Ted’s deep understanding of Jewish communal life and his lifelong commitment to service make him an extraordinary addition to our Foundation team. His leadership will help strengthen the philanthropic partnerships that sustain Sholom’s mission of compassionate care, dignity, and community.”

Sholom Foundation supports the mission and future of Sholom, an inclusive and nonprofit senior care organization guided by Jewish values that provides a full continuum of care to older adults across the Twin Cities to people of all faiths and backgrounds.
