Updated Quality Measures (QM) User’s Manual Released

Posted on February 26, 2019 by Sue Boyd

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) surprised all aging services providers on Feb. 21 by releasing version 12 of the MDS 3.0 Quality Measures (QM) User’s Manual. The most significant revisions focused on these key areas:

  • Short-stay and long-stay pressure ulcer QMs;
  • Long-stay weight loss QM;
  • Short-stay improvements in function QM;
  • Long-stay and short-stay influenza vaccination QMs.

The MDS 3.0 QM User’s Manual v12.0 contains detailed specifications for the MDS 3.0 quality measures. This latest version is 110 pages in length and carries an effective date of Jan. 1, 2019.

CMS also released the Quality Measure Identification Number by CMS Reporting Module Table V1.7. This documents CMS quality measures calculated using MDS 3.0 data and reported in a CMS reporting module (CASPER Reporting Quality Measure Report, Nursing Home Compare, Five-Star Quality Rating System and Facility & Resident Quality Measure Preview Reports).

These documents can also be found on the CMS Quality Measures (QM) page.
