Attend Your Precinct Caucus
Posted on February 22, 2024 by Dan Nelson
Coming up next week, the major parties in Minnesota are having their precinct caucuses for the 2024 elections.
Precinct caucuses are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in democracy and advocate for aging services. We have created a toolkit for you to attend and participate in your caucus effectively.
About caucuses
Attending your precinct caucus is an excellent opportunity to meet community members, engage with candidates, raise an important issue, and participate in the party endorsement process for the 2024 election.
If you are new to caucuses, here is a quick explanation of their work: Minnesota Secretary Of State - Precinct caucuses.
The Secretary of State provides an address lookup to find your precinct caucus: Secretary of State Caucus Finder. If you cannot find your party’s caucus information, contact the political party directly.
Take action
We have provided a form for you to bring forward a resolution at your caucus meeting, no matter your party.
A resolution is a way to ask your political party to include a specific issue in their action agenda or party platform. As aging services professionals, we are bringing forward resolutions that ask each political party to include language in their platform for creating a plan for the coming drastic increase in older adults in our state.
To bring a resolution forward, you should arrive early to your caucus meeting and speak with the organizer (Precinct Chair). Let them know you have a resolution to bring forward. You will be most effective if you bring someone with you. Resolutions require a motion and a second, following Robert’s Rules. If you bring someone, they can second your motion to bring the resolution forward.
