Bring Three Good Things to Your Community in November

Posted on October 28, 2021 by Julie Apold

LeadingAge Minnesota has launched the second of six Self Care for Safe Care activities called Three Good Things. We invite you to write down three good things that happened to you each day to practice gratitude and build resilience throughout November and December.

It has been shown that if you write down three good things that happen to you every day, your happiness and positivity increase. This simple exercise has been shown to lower burn-out, improve sleep quality, and lead to less conflict at work, higher happiness levels, and better work-life balance.

Encourage everyone in your community (i.e., leaders, staff, residents, families, volunteers) to practice Three Good Things each night for at least two weeks before they go to bed. You can pair a Three Good Things poster with a Three Good Things Journal to support this activity.

Tips for practicing Three Good Things:

  • Write down three good things or something positive noticed during the day, like a beautiful sunset.
  • It is more effective if you write by hand rather than using an electronic device.
  • The items you write can be short and specific. For example, a good thing could be a smile from a friend or an unexpected compliment at work.
  • It is most effective to practice writing down Three Good Things right before you go to bed each night.

Happiness is contagious; pass it on! Visit the Self Care for Safe Care site to find all the resources and tools for bringing Three Good Things to your community in November and December. This is the second of six Self Care for Safe Care activities designed to build our resilience and increase our sense of happiness and well-being.
