New Multilingual Audio Glossary Supports Aging Services Workforce
Posted on March 19, 2026 by Kirstan Ketter
A new resource is now available to support the aging services workforce: the Multilingual Audio Glossary of Aging Services Language.
Developed with funding from the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) GEAR division, this tool helps staff learn and understand key vocabulary used in aging services settings.
The glossary helps users learn common caregiving and workplace terms through audio pronunciation and translations, allowing them to see and hear each term and its definition in English and other languages.
Users can listen to the vocabulary in English as well as other widely spoken languages in Minnesota, helping reinforce understanding.
Multilingual Resource
The glossary is currently available in English, Hmong, Spanish, and Somali, and is designed to support a wide range of staff. It can help team members who are learning English build confidence with workplace vocabulary and pronunciation, while also supporting English speakers who are new to aging services as they learn the field’s specialized terminology.
By making essential terminology easier to learn and use, the Multilingual Audio Glossary helps improve safety and quality of care, strengthen communication between staff and residents, support training and confidence for multilingual caregivers, and introduce aging-services vocabulary to anyone entering the field.
