Hospitals Now Required to Share Your Quality Data with Patients

As part of the new discharge planning rule that is effective Nov. 29, hospitals are required to provide patients preparing to transition from acute care to post-acute care with access to information about their provider choices. The information includes performance on quality and resource utilization measures, such as number of pressure ulcers, proportion of falls that lead to injury, and number of readmissions back to the hospital.

Anxiety Shared Pathway Toolkit Now Available

A new toolkit developed on behalf of the Lake Superior Quality Improvement Network (QIN) will help transitional care units and home care agencies prepare staff to mitigate anxiety symptoms and offer integrated therapy programs to alleviate anxiety and improve outcomes.

CMS Vows Continued Efforts to Ensure Safety, Quality

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator vowed this week to “push beyond the status quo” in its oversight of nursing homes. “[W’e’re] continuously looking for ways to improve our approach to nursing home safety and quality. We must never be complacent – we should always push ahead to continuously improve our efforts,” CMS Administrator Seem Verma wrote in a wide-ranging blog post published April 15.

New Report Shows Care Centers If They Are at Risk of a 2% Rate Penalty

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the Provider Threshold Report (PTR). This new report for the Skilled Nursing Facility Quality Reporting Program (SNF QRP) shows care centers if they are at risk of a 2 percent rate penalty for failure to meet the 80 percent reporting threshold requirement on the quality reporting measures during a calendar year.   

DHS Announces PIPP Grants

CMS To Lift 5-Star Freeze, Make Other Changes to Nursing Home Compare

The Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the freeze on health inspection ratings at care centers that was instituted in February 2018 will be lifted in April. This is among several changes CMS is making to provide greater support to consumers looking to compare the quality of nursing homes via Nursing Home Compare. Major changes include:   

DHS Seeks Nursing Home PIPP Proposals

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking proposals for the next round of Nursing Home Performance-Based Incentive Payment Program (PIPP). Proposals are due May 1. Incentive payments for selected projects will begin on Jan. 1, 2020. 

Nursing Homes Make Continued Progress Against Anti-Psychotics Misuse
