Congressman Emmer Visits Guardian Angels With Members of MN Legislature

Posted on September 1, 2022 by Dan Nelson

Last week, Congressman Tom Emmer joined Guardian Angels CEO Traci Larson, State Rep. Paul Novotny, and State Sen. Mary Kiffmeyer at Guardian Angels Care Center, a skilled nursing community in Elk River. LeadingAge Minnesota staff also attended the meeting.

What happened

The elected officials toured the Guardian Angels community and had a lively discussion about Elderly Waiver, the 21-month reimbursement lag for care centers, and the costs of state and federal regulatory surveys passed on to aging services providers.

Traci and her team did a fantastic job welcoming three legislators and discussing the critical issues facing providers in Minnesota.

Why it matters

We need greater support at both the federal and state levels to pass legislation that funds the cost of care for our aging population. These visits provide opportunities to gain champions who will carry the mantle for our issues in Congress and the Minnesota State Legislature.

What can you do?

  • Set up a visit with your local representatives or candidates. Contact Dan Nelson at dnelson@leadingagemn.org or 651-497-1707 to discuss having legislators visit your communities.
  • Ask your member of Congress to join the newly formed House 21st Century Long-Term Care Caucus by utilizing this Action Alert.
