PPE: Possibly Headed to Nursing Homes, But We Demand More for All Senior Care Providers

Posted on April 28, 2020 by Jodi Boyne

According to a news report, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be direct shipping PPE – masks, gowns, gloves, eye protection – to every one of the 15,400 nursing homes in the nation.  While this forthcoming action is welcome, it is not nearly enough. It is unacceptable to not provide PPE to ALL senior care and living providers.

We believe a formal announcement will be made in the next day or two and that packages containing an indeterminate supply of PPE may begin going out to nursing homes in early May. We are continuing to fight on Capitol Hill, here in Minnesota and in the media for access and prioritization of PPE to the entire continuum of care, as well as access to widescale symptomatic and asymptomatic testing, and additional funding support.

As we continue this fight to secure PPE from the government for all providers, our team in the Savings & Solutions Center is seeking Minnesota manufacturers for facemasks, faceshields, gowns and hand sanitizer. Access the PPE Resource List.
