Resource Round-Up: Outdoor Visits; Testing Experience & Potential Vendors; Navigating Trauma

Posted on June 23, 2020 by Jodi Boyne

In this week’s COVID-19 Resource Round-Up, we share tools to help you plan and communicate outdoor visits, navigating the grief and trauma that accompany a global pandemic and new testing resources, including a vendor list and a webinar featured the experiences and perspectives of our LeadingAge MN members.

Communication Resources: Outdoor Visitation:This toolkit will help you plan, implement and communicate this next step in visitation. It includes messages, sample letters, an FAQ, sample risk acknowledgement form, criteria for providers, residents and families, best practices and more. Download Communication Resources – Outdoor Visitation.

Testing Vendors: As we continue to seek answers to unresolved questions on testing, we have assembled an initial list of potential testing vendors to provide you another tool as you consider your testing approach and the needs of your organization. The list will continue to evolve as additional vendors are identified and with any state and federal changes to the testing approach, process, and payment. Download: COVID-19 RT-PCR Testing Vendor List.

Lessons Learned from COVID-19 Testing – A Provider Perspective Webinar: We asked four LeadingAge MN members to share their experiences, process and lessons learned from testing in their settings – whether they utilized the state’s Mobile Testing Team, worked through their local health system, or contracted with a private lab. Watch and learn from Sara Blair, Administrator, Sauer Health, Winona; Nathan Johnson, CEO, PioneerCare, Fergus Falls; Jon Riewer, President and CEO, Eventide Senior Living Communities, Moorhead; and Ann Thole, Chief Operating Officer, Sholom, St. Louis Park. Watch the Webinar.

Navigating Grief, Loss, Trauma & COVID-19 Webinar: We are facing a virus we are just beginning to understand and live in the tension of trying to serve while also navigating our own reasonable fears. This webinar will help you and your staff appreciate the emotional complexity of COVID-19; recognize the layers of grief, loss and trauma, and the potential impacts on well-being; identify potential risk factors for burnout; and receive self-care suggestions to increase resiliency and endurance. Presenter: Jenny Schroedel, MA, Optage® Hospice Chaplain, Roseville. Download the PPT    Access the webinar

Tips & Resources for Dementia Care During COVID-19 Testing: The Alzheimer’s Association of MN-ND has produced a training video that provides an overview of dementia, some common behavior and communication challenges of those who live with dementia, and site-specific resources that are helpful for when you are testing individuals living with dementia for COVID-19.
