$1 Million Invested in 43 Workforce Development Projects

Seventeen workforce grants, worth more than $385,000, were awarded to rural LeadingAge Minnesota members by the LeadingAge Minnesota Foundation last week. This second round completes a $1 million grant distribution through the Workforce Solutions grant program. 

Examples of Round Two projects include:

  • Test the use of intercultural coaches with Native American employees and candidates;
  • Explore new recruitment strategies, including Experience Camps and social media for high school and college students;
  • Study the impact on retention of wellness and fitness initiatives, an advanced dementia care program helping employees with resident end-of-life issues, and enhanced leadership training;
  • Develop new literacy improvement tools for CNA candidates with English as a second language;
  • Create a toolkit for aging services career awareness addressing misconceptions of the profession.

Grant award selection for the second round was made by a seven-member Independent Review Panel of workforce experts. The panel scored 36 grant applications and met to determine which projects to fund.

Decisions were made on strength of the proposals, innovativeness of the ideas and mix of project topics across awards. 

All six rural LeadingAge Minnesota districts received at least one award. The Independent Review Panel recommendations were then ratified by the Foundation Board of Directors.
