Reporting Employee COVID-19 Hospitalizations and Deaths to OSHA

A recent Star Tribune story on Minnesota OSHA inspections raised questions from a few LeadingAge Minnesota members. The story was not specific to health care or to long-term care, but it did note that MNOSHA had fined a nursing home for not reporting that one of its employees had been hospitalized with COVID-19.

MDH Updates Quarantine Recommendations for Health Care Workers

On Feb. 16, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) released a new document COVID-19 Recommendations for Health Care Workers that reviews diagnostic testing of health care workers (HCW), management of HCW exposure to COVID-19, HCW return to work, guidance for ill HCW and travel recommendations for our staff. Additionally, within the guidance document, MDH cites several already existing documents that informed the creation of this resource.

Friendship Village of Bloomington Opens First Phase of Redevelopment Project

This month, Friendship Village of Bloomington will officially open the first phase of its new health center to area seniors. The project adds 16 assisted living apartment homes and five memory care suites to the senior living community, bringing the total communitywide capacity to 42 assisted living apartments and 32 memory care suites. The three-story building is equipped with a secure memory care courtyard, game and activity room, and spa bath.

Governor Walz visits Jones-Harrison to Highlight Vaccine Successes

2020 Compensation Reports Available for Purchase

Public Comment Period on Assisted Living Licensure Concludes

The public comment period on the proposed rules for assisted living closed on Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 4:30 p.m. In addition to comments provided during the public hearing held Jan. 19 and 20, over 275 were submitted to the administrative law judge (ALJ) on the topic of assisted living licensure.

CDC Officially Extends Eviction Moratorium

Ahead of the Jan. 31 expiration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has ordered the extension of the current eviction moratorium for non-payment of rent.

The order prevents residential evictions until March 31; tenants must self-certify eligibility for the protections. The extension keeps the moratorium largely unchanged, and tenants who previously submitted the self-certification should not have to resubmit.

In the meantime, we are advocating to quickly provide rent relief for senior housing communities impacted by COVID-19.

DHS Changing Timeline of PIPP Program

The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) is making some changes to the timeline and process for the Performance Incentive Payment Projects (PIPP) program, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The next PIPP Request for Proposals will be posted in a couple of weeks. PIPP proposals for this year will be due to DHS by June 1, 2021 to allow eligible settings more time to research and submit projects.
